Welcoming a new baby is an exciting and sometimes overwhelming experience for families. At our pediatric clinics in California, we are proud to offer Welcome Baby services, designed to support families during pregnancy and the early months of a baby’s life.

Our Welcome Baby program offers free* or low-cost prenatal and postpartum support, including home visits, breastfeeding assistance, baby development checkups, and connections to vital resources—all tailored to help your family thrive.

What Does Welcome Baby Entail?

The Welcome Baby program provides comprehensive support for expectant and new parents through a combination of hospital-based and home-based visits. Key features include:

Prenatal Support: Families can receive up to three home visits during pregnancy, where Parent Coaches or nurses provide education on prenatal care, nutrition, stress management, and labor preparation.
In-Hospital Visit: After delivery, a Certified Lactation Educator or Parent Coach assists with breastfeeding, bonding, and postpartum recovery.
Postpartum Home Visits: Families typically receive five home visits during the baby’s first nine months. These visits include:
- Infant growth and developmental assessments
- Breastfeeding support
- Education on home safety, nutrition, and parenting
- Screenings for maternal depression
- Referrals to community resources like WIC or childcare programs
Baby-Friendly Resources: Families may receive essential items such as nursing pillows, baby-proofing supplies, thermometers, and toys.

How We Provide Welcome Baby Services at Low Cost or No Cost

As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in California, we are committed to making these services accessible to all families. Here’s how we ensure affordability:

Medi-Cal Coverage: Many Welcome Baby services are covered under Medi-Cal’s maternity and newborn care benefits. Families with qualifying Medi-Cal plans can access these services free of charge.
First 5 LA Funding: For eligible families in Los Angeles County, First 5 LA funds the program at no cost regardless of income or immigration status.
Sliding Fee Scale: For those who do not qualify for Medi-Cal but still need assistance, we offer services on a sliding fee scale based on household income.
Community Partnerships: We work with local organizations to provide additional resources like diapers, food assistance, and parenting classes.
